High-flying footballers face battle Royal in Navan

By Mark Walsh

THE GALWAY footballers and hurlers meet opposition from the east of the country this weekend, but it is Kevin Walsh’s squad who have to do the travelling.
The footballers are in Navan on Sunday to face Meath at 2 o’clock. The sides played out an entertaining draw in Salthill last April, when Galway came back from a nine-point half-time deficit to lead by three in the closing stages before Meath staged a comeback of their own. Go back further to the last time Galway were in Navan in 2014 and you get a reflection of the improvements made to their defensive system.
Galway let in 3-18 when the sides met in round one three years ago, and although they did score 4-11, it wasn’t enough to ward off defeat. While victory cannot be guaranteed on Sunday, one thing we can say for sure, is that a repeat scoreline is probably not on the cards.
