THE 13TH edition of the Tuam AC Road Race attracted well over 300 athletes to the town on Sunday afternoon and finished with Lithuanian international marathon runner Valdas Dopolskas recording an impressive victory in a fast time of 24:47.
The 24-year-old ran the Olympic marathon for his country in Rio 2016 but now competes for Balbriggan and District AC in Dublin and cruised home to win this year’s race, 50 seconds clear of Liffey Valley AC’s Peter Arthur (25:37), with Matt Bidwell of Galway City Harriers third in a time of 26:09. Zola Flynn of Calry AC in Sligo was first in the ladies race in a time of 31:58, ahead of Athenry AC duo Yvonne Fehily in second (33:08) and Mary Kealy in third (35:00). Cillian Dunne of Borrisokane AC (26:42) and Craughwell AC’s Shauna Bocquet (28:36) were winners in the wheelchair category.
