Tuam golf club stage successsful irish boys open

AFTER four fantastic days of action at Tuam Golf Club last week, the Irish Boys Amateur Open Championship produced a worthy winner as French youngster Adrien Pendaries finished a comfortable eight shots clear of the field.
A final round of 74 completed a total of 286 and at two-under, the 16-year-old was the sole player to break par at the end of the competition.
Pendaries made his move with a stunning 65 on Thursday — a day when only three players carded sub-par rounds — and in the process broke a course record previously set in 2000 by TP Niland, head PGA Professional at Tuam Golf Club.
That gave him a five-shot advantage entering the final round on Friday and although New Ross golfer Michael Ryan cut his lead to two shots at one point, the Parisian re-took control on the 11th green and saw off his nearest challengers.
