Tipperary hold off late galway comeback

Tipperary 2-18

Galway 0-20

A disastrous spell early in the second half at Semple Stadium, Thurles last Sunday cost Galway dearly. It set up Tipperary for their first win of the 2015 Allianz Hurling League and helped condemn the visitors to their opening defeat of the year, even though they went close to snatching an unlikely victory late on.
After being seemingly well beaten at one stage — 2-15 to 0-11 behind — it looked bad for Anthony Cunningham’s men, and memories of last year’s awful championship capitulation to the same opponents came flooding back. However, that nightmare scenario did not unfold again and Galway put in a commendable rally that saw them claw their way back into contention.
They stepped up a gear and notched eight of the next nine scores to put themselves into a position where they might easily have claimed the League points but a lack of composure in front of goal and missed chances allowed Tipp’ to hang on for a crucial win with two late white flags settling the issue.
