St jarlaths face stern challenge against summerhill

ST JARLATH’S COLLEGE, Tuam are back in Championship action next Saturday afternoon as both semi-finals of the NUI Galway-sponsored Connacht Post Primary Schools Senior A competition are down for decision at the Connacht GAA Centre.
The Bekan venue will play host to a double-header starting with St Jarlath’s clash with Summerhill College, Sligo (12.30 pm) and followed by the meeting of St Gerald’s, Castlebar and Roscommon CBS (2.00 pm).
The last of St Jarlath’s 48 Connacht titles came in ’12 and although it’s a competition they’ve traditionally dominated, the Aonghus Murphy Memorial Cup has resided in Mayo for four of the last six years, with St. Gerald’s taking the last two.
They are sole representatives from Galway among the seven colleges in this year’s Senior A Championship. League results have a major bearing on the championship format — this year’s League ending with both finalists, Summerhill College and Roscommon CBS, advancing straight to the semi-final stage. St Colman’s, Claremorris, St Muirdeach’s, Ballina and St Attracta’s Community School, Tubbercurry have already been knocked out of the competition.
