Corofin hosted major Bowls event

COROFIN Bowling Club recently hosted the semi-finals and final of the Western Bowls (short mat) doubles competition.

It was Corofin’s first time to host a final, as the club only joined Western Bowls in 2011. The host club would’ve liked to have had a team in contention on the day but though it did not turn out that way, the venue, Corofin Hall, and the club’s hospitality made it a great occasion for the visiting players and spectators.

From an original entry of 67 pairs from 12 clubs — Corofin, Renmore, Craughwell, Ballinasloe, Mountbellew, Athenry, Salthill, Loughrea, Knocknacarra, Turloughmore, Mervue and Portumna — competing in earlier rounds over the two previous weeks at Loughrea, Renmore and Turloughmore, it came down to the final four pairs.
