Home win over Armagh gives Galway footballers hope away next Sunday
By Billy Coss
IT’S been a testing few months for all involved in Galway football from the early rounds of the Allianz League to Michael Meehan’s departure from the inter-county game for the foreseeable future, and on to the U-21s’ shock defeat in Leitrim.
But there are signs of rising collective confidence after Alan Mulholland’s team gave their Division 2 survival hopes a major boost against Armagh at Tuam Stadium.
A win last Sunday was imperative if relegation is to be avoided and although they left it late, landing the game’s closing four points to see off a resurgent Armagh, Galway deservedly came out on top in an entertaining encounter and they moved out of the drop zone ahead of the final round of fixtures.
