Handballers seek world domination

TWENTY-FOUR handballers from throughout the county will this week be jetting off to Minnesota, USA in the hopes of landing gold in the World Handball Championships.
There are twelve handball clubs scattered throughout Galway and five of those will have representatives taking part in this competition.
Abbeyknockmoy, Claregalway, Micheál Breathnachs, Moycullen and Inis Mór all have competitors vying for glory and three players from these clubs have been selected for the prestigious Team Ireland: Martin Mulkerrins (Team Captain, Moycullen), Niamh Heffernan (Claregalway) and Frances Curran (Team Liaison Officer, Micheál Breathnachs).
Making her first appearance under the Irish team umbrella is 16-year-old Niamh Heffernan from Carnmore. She is a former U13 world champion in the both singles and doubles One-Wall and Four-Wall competitions, which she won in 2015.
