Tuam campaign gets OIympian support

THE campaign to develop a major community sports facility in Tuam with indoor space, running tracks, grass and astro pitches will be bolstered by a public talk next week featuring the former Irish Athletics team manager who was heavily involved in developing a similar centre in Co Donegal.
Patsy McGonagle, who managed the Irish athletics team for four Olympics, was the driving force behind the highly regarded Finn Valley community facility in Stranorlar in Co Donegal which is regarded as one of the best of its kind in the country.
Three of Tuam’s sporting clubs – Tuam Athletics, Tuam Camogie and Tuam-Cortoon Ladies Gaelic Football -- have joined forces to campaign for increased sporting facilities for young people in the town.

The campaign has now garnered the support of former British Olympic track athlete Sebastian Coe who has pledged to attend the official opening of the Tuam facility should it come to fruition.
