Soon-to-be centenarian in campaign to save library

A soon-to-be centenarian is among those campaigning to re-open Ballygar’s library which has been closed for the past six weeks.

Nano Naughton from nearby Mount Talbot will celebrate her 100th birthday this Saturday, April 21. She has been a regular user of the part-time library and told The Tuam Herald that “it would be very sad if it was closed for good”.
The library has been closed since the retirement of its librarian Mary O’Malley and locals are vehemently campaigning for her to be replaced to ensure the much-used facility is retained.
However, the County Library service are adamant that the funding is in place for a new person to be appointed for 2018, all that’s needed is the green light from the Department of the Environment and Local Government to fill the post.
