Gardaí investigating Athenry armed robbery

GARDAI in Athenry are investigating a number of crimes in the area in recent days.

The most serious of these was an attempted armed robbery at a petrol station on the Dublin Road during which the lone male involved produced a weapon and threatened to use it.
The crime occurred last Sunday evening, January 28, at 8.30pm and Gardaí in Athenry are very anxious to track down the culprit and are appealing for the help of the public.
Also in the Athenry area Gardaí are appealing for the help of the public in tracking down the criminal gang involved in the theft of 30 bales of silage from a farmyard at Esker.
Due to the fodder shortage silage is quite valuable now and Gardaí are advising all farmers to be as vigilant as possible and to ensure all valuables are secured.
They are particularly anxious to speak to anyone who may have noticed silage being moved at unusual hours or suspicious activity in the Esker area between Thursday night, January 25 and the following Saturday, January 27.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Garda Brendan Owens at Athenry Garda Station 091 844016.
Also in Athenry Gardaí are investigating an act of criminal damage to a car on Bridge Street on Tuesday night, January 23. The driver’s window of a blue Toyota Corolla was broken. Garda Alan Maher is investigating this matter and any information should be passed on to him at the same number as above.
