Hosting County Fleadh will be major boost for Tuam

HUNDREDS of musicians, dancers, singers and fans are expected to throng Tuam in May as the town has been selected to host the presitigious Co Galway Fleadh.

Tuam hasn’t had a Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE) for a number of years, but a branch of the organisation that celebrates traditional Irish music and culture was officially approved just before Christmas, and the town is set to receive a significant economic boost when the Galway Fleadh arrives in May.
Over 1,000 participants will be taking part in the myriad of different events associated with the annual Fleadh, on the weekend of Friday May 18 to Sunday May 20.
Competitions in traditional Irish music, singing and dancing will imbue the town with a lively atmosphere as the summer kicks into full swing. It is hoped that the local schools and hotels will provide the venues for the competitions, according to the secretary of Tuam CCE, Carmel Nic Eochaidh.
