Former Mayo footballer to sleep on streets with Galway’s homeless

FORMER Mayo footballer Trevor Mortimer, who lives in Belclare and works in the family business there, has joined up with more than 350 current and past inter-county footballers, hurlers and camogie players who will be sleeping rough with the homeless this Saturday, December 16.

He will be in Galway, which is one of ten cities and towns in Ireland where participants will be sleeping out. New York and Boston are also in on the act, and it is all being organised by Gaelic Voices for Change.
“Look, if you go back over the years this was never an issue. It's certainly visible in every city and town now. It's a strange and kind of unacceptable situation that has evolved,” said Trevor.
“We'll be trying to raise as much funds for the various charities that are involved, raise as much awareness about the homelessness problem. That's the aim with the exercise."
