Prestigious French award for Tuam sports consultant

A MEATH man who now calls Tuam his home has been honoured by the French Embassy in Ireland for his services to European sport.

European Olympic Official Pierce O'Callaghan has been living with his wife Tamara (nee O'Driscoll) and their four children in Tuam since 2008 and where they run their sports management company SAVVY Sports.
Last week Pierce was awarded the Médaille de la Jeunesse, des Sports et de l'Engagement Associatif by Ambassador of France to Ireland Stéphane Crouzat at a ceremony in the Residence of France in Dublin.
The award was created in 1929 and while originally rewarding sporting achievements, it now recognises a person's role in sports and its promotion, educational and community-based activities.
