THE M17 motorway is still not recognised by Google Maps just over a month since the new stretch from Gort to Tuam opened to the public.

Motorists who regularly use Google Maps on their smart phones might have noticed that they are driving through green fields as far as the map imagery is concerned.

The new motorway isn’t given as an option at all to anyone seeking navigation advice on Google and has already led a number of motorists astray as a result.

Seán O’Neill, Director of Communications of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), told The Tuam Herald that they are surprised that Google Maps haven’t updated.
