Tuam bypass

WATCH: Tuam's bypass is ready for opening

THE long-awaited Tuam bypass is complete and is set to open to traffic next week. It's expected the route will become operational sometime next Wednesday evening (Sept 27) after Transport Minister Shane Ross officially opens the M17-M18 Tuam to Gort motorway earlier in the day.

While the Minister will cut the ribbon on one of the region's largest road projects before lunchtime, traffic won't be allowed to travel on the routes until later in the evening following a final safety check.

The two road projects have been completed ahead of schedule and will greatly improve access to the region. It's hoped that the heavy traffic congestion experienced on approach roads to Tuam, especially at evening times, will be significantly eased as a result of the bypass.
