Traders argue greenway is answer to Tuam’s economic woes

TUAM’S economic survival will hinge on the provision of a greenway through the town, according to business people who addressed this week’s Municipal District Council meeting.

Members of the town’s retail, hospitality and property sectors took part in the deputation on Monday, where they presented a petition with 3,000 signatures, along with pledges of support from a number of sporting organisations.
A motion seeking funding for a feasibility study on whether the disused railway line between Tuam and Athenry could be developed is set to be voted on by members of Galway County Council later this month.
