New start for ‘saved’ school

A NORTH Galway school faced with closure earlier this year will reopen for a new term next week with 18 new students.

The saving of Coláiste an Chreagáin in Mountbellew is viewed as a big win for rural communities in the county, many of which are battling closures of other services.
Principal Ann Marie Carroll told The Tuam Herald that the school has really turned a corner.
“It was a very anxious time but we've a strong First Year intake, a strong Transition Year and we've extended our Further Education programmes. We're heading into it with all fires burning. It's a massive year for the school and we're looking forward to building for the future.â€
