Headford bank gone cashless

By Bernie Ni Fhlathartha

THE decision by Bank of Ireland to downscale services at their Headford branch has been greeted with public outrage and described as 'another nail in the coffin for rural Ireland.'

The bank's branch will no longer facilitate over the counter transactions which have been replaced by a self service system relying on automated transactions.
Headford and Ballinrobe branches of Bank of Ireland are the two latest victims of an executive decision to withdraw key services. BOI branches in Dunmore and Ballygar were downscaled a few weeks ago, despite a campaign by Dunmore traders against the move.
The Headford community is mystified why a bank which once had 13 tellers is now reduced to being another automated hub.
The weekly Headford Mart held on Saturdays will be sorely impacted as both the Mart and its customers will be unable to withdraw or lodge sums above €3,000.
