Alternative Greenway is ‘only a suggestion’

CONFUSION has emerged over an alternative route for a greenway near Tuam, after Galway East TD Sean Canney stated the plans presented to the town's municipal district council earlier this year were only a 'suggestion'.

The route, which takes in Athenry, Monivea, Ballyglunin, Corofin, Tuam, Shrule, Headford, Milltown and on to Claremorris, was presented to the February meeting of the MDC by a former Galway County Council engineer.
Martin Lavelle was invited to make the presentation by independent councillor Billy Connelly, who took over Mr Canney's seat on Galway County Council after his election to the Dáil.
However, Deputy Canney has confirmed to the Tuam Herald this week that the alternative route is only a suggestion. He also reiterated his belief that the current campaign to install a greenway on the Tuam to Athenry railway line is flawed.
