Alarm as teen counselling service faces closure

YOUNG people in the North Galway area are facing the loss of a vital counselling service unless state funding can be secured in the coming weeks.

The Youth Work Ireland Galway counselling service has been free to young people aged between 12 and 21 over the past five years.

It offers sessions to young people in Tuam, Ballinasloe, Loughrea and Galway city throughout the school year. However, it is now on the brink of closure due to the lack of funding to support its €35,000 annual running costs.
Roscommon-Galway TD Eugene Murphy is to raise the issue with Minister for Children Katherine Zappone.
