Bank's move is 'bad for business'

TRADERS in Dunmore fear business will be severely affected by the Bank of Ireland's decision to change its branch to a self-service operation later this summer.

Dunmore and Ballygar branches will move to the Advice and Self-Service models as part of a reconfiguration of 100 Bank of Ireland branches around the country.
There will be no cashier services in the affected branches with staff moving to the floor to assist customers use the new machines being installed.
The change has not been welcomed by members of the Dunmore Traders Association. Secretary Helen Gunning sees the move as a retrograde step which will particularly impact the many elderly people living in the community.
“This will take people out of the town. It will be a reason for people to do their business elsewhere,” Helen told The Tuam Herald.
