Volunteers vow to keep town blooming and urge public to be proactive

THE volunteers responsible for brightening up Tuam's streets are disappointed but won't be perturbed by the smashing of flower boxes over the weekend.

Brightly painted wooden flower boxes filled with new plants just coming into bloom were erected just over a week ago but were found torn down and emptied in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“We have a couple of incidents like this every year and we tend to just get on with it and not make a big deal about it. That way those responsible don't get the attention they might have been hoping for,” remarked Michael Waldron of Tuam Tidy Towns.
The Tidy Towns Committee is encouraging people to do something, no matter how small, to help clean up or brighten up their area.
