Ballygar school ransacked and cash stolen in burglary

A SIGNIFICANT amount of money has been stolen during a robbery at Colaiste Mhuire secondary school in Ballygar.

The incident occurred at the school last Thursday night when two intruders gained entry to the building through an unsecured window.
They raided the office, breaking into the school safe from where the money was taken. 
They then cut the telephone wires and removed the hard drive from the CCTV system that was later recovered from the school grounds where it had been submerged in water.

Damage to the building, where the school alarm was also interfered with, is estimated in the region of €1,000 in addition to the sum of money stolen.
Gardaí in Ballinasloe who are investigating the incident are trying to recover the data and have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity at the school in the days before the incident to contact them on 09096 – 31890.
