Old library will get a €1.7m facelift

TUAM’s former library building has moved a step closer to being reopened as a Department of Social Protection office following the agreement of a lease between Galway County Council and the Office of Public Works.
The building on Shop Street closed in 2010 and has remained vacant for the past seven years despite several community arts groups seeking to utilise the pubic building as a rehearsal space.
The OPW will now invest €1.7m to transform the building into an Intreo centre that brings community welfare officers, social welfare inspectors and activation services for Tuam and the greater North Galway area together.
