Reports of date rape on the rise in Galway

THE reporting of incidents of date rape is rising significantly among young people in Galway city and county.
The Galway Rape Crisis Centre has noticed a substantial increase in people aged between 18 and their early 20s coming to them for support having endured the trauma of date rape or non-consensual sex.
Executive Director of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre Cathy Connolly says there has been a “huge” increase in date rape incidents being reported to them.
“It’s certainly something we are dealing with a lot more,” says Cathy, who pointed out that there have been cases involving male and female clients.
