Four months to get Greenway on track

EFFORTS to secure a greenway in Tuam are set to intensify with the establishment of a steering group of local volunteers to move the project forward.
Over 150 people attended a public meeting in the Corralea Court Hotel on Friday evening where local representatives, business, school, sporting and community group representatives all spoke in favour of developing the amenity along the former railway line.
Efforts to integrate a greenway along the route of the Tuam-Athenry line have been thwarted in recent years by opposition to the plan from the majority of the town’s Municipal District Council.
Four members are in favour of the plan but five councillors insist it would be more beneficial to the town to preserve the line in the hopes that a railway service will be reintroduced in the future.
