One-stop-shop may close smaller health centres

FEARS are mounting regarding the possible closure of public health centres around North East Galway.
The Tuam Herald has learned that a review of the smaller health centres in towns and villages such as Dunmore and Abbeyknockmoy is being carried out ahead of the opening of the new multi-million Primary Care Centre in Tuam.
Work is rapidly progressing on the €9 million development which will be the base for public health nurses, home helps, speech and language therapists, dental services, dietitians, physiotherapists and other health care professionals.
However, once the new facility comes on stream, it may leave other smaller health centres redundant, with most staff and services being based in and offered from Tuam.
