TUAM’S Garden of Peace, the last remaining aspect of the town’s Mother and Baby Home, is being added to the Record of Protected Structures.
Galway County Council’s conservation officer Máirín Doddy has recommended that the garden and the Tuam Martyrs Memorial, both in Tubberjarlath, be included on the council’s list of over 13,000 buildings and structures throughout the county.
Ongoing work by the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes at the Garden of Peace will not be affected by the proposed designation.
