Social housing spend in Tuam to top €14 million

OVER €14 million will be spent on providing social housing in Tuam over the coming year.
The figure was revealed at this week’s council meeting, where members passed planning approval for the development of 30 houses at the Weir Road in Tuam.
Construction on that development is expected to begin early next year, which will coincide with the redevelopment works scheduled for Gilmartin Road, where over 25 new houses will be built at a cost of €7.8 million.
Acting Director of Housing with Galway County Council Michael Owens said that a further 14 houses will be refurbished and upgraded at Tirboy at a cost of almost €720,000, which will be available for occupancy in the first three months of next year.
