Welfare wait forces turn to charity

THE absence of a Social Welfare Inspector for the Tuam area for three months has forced people trying to claim Jobseeker’s Allowance to turn to charity in order to get by.
It’s understood that people have been left waiting between eight and ten weeks in order to have their application dealt with.
One local county councillor says the situation has been so desperate for some that he sought the assistance of the St Vincent de Paul who gave funds to one individual who was in a “very bad way”.
