Traders will have their say in free parking debate

TRADERS in Tuam and other towns are assessing what impact the recent decision to allow a two-hour 'floating’ free parking period during the day under new by-laws might have on them.
The decision was initially greeted favourably but some inherent problems might even make the situation worse for businesses trying to attract customers into the centre of towns.
The main threat posed by the introduction of the 'floating’ zone is that it is expected to be very difficult to police. This could result in town parking being taken up early in the morning and leaving no space for shoppers to stop off and do business later in the day.
