Tuam mass commemorated local men who died at gallipoli

ONE hundred years and a few hours after the day he died, a victim of the Gallipoli campaign of World War I was remembered in a commemorative Mass at Tuam Cathedral on Saturday.
Private John French was killed in a Turkish trench on August 28, 1915, and his name and those of six other men from the Tuam area were read during the Prayers of the Faithful by County Mayor Pete Roche.
A piper and a colour party from Renmore Barracks under Capt Damian Kelleher rendered military honours during the Mass, which was celebrated by a great-grandnephew of John French.
