Irish water slammed for rural ripoff

IRISH Water have jumped the gun and are charging unauthorised connection fees to new houses in rural areas which are adding significantly to the costs of building.
This is according to Tuam Area Cllr Sean Canney who had his suspicions confirmed by a senior Co Council official when he raised the matter at the local authority meeting on Monday.
Cllr Canney agues that Irish Water have gone ahead without the decision of the Commission for Energy Regulation on set connection charges and are charging connection as well as development levy fees.
Another member instanced a case where Irish Water were quoting a massive €50,000 charge to connect a rural house. When he challenged this and reached agreement with Irish Water that the work could be carried out privately the cost dropped to €10,000.
