Car buyers being duped by thieves cloning vehicle registrations

CARS are having their registration papers cloned and being sold to unsuspecting buyers. Already stolen cars have been seized in Tuam, Mountbellew and Dunmore, and Gardai are warning people to be wary.
People should be very careful if offered cars for sale via the internet and certain magazines where the purchaser is asked to meet the seller in car parks, church grounds or shopping centre car parks — the vehicles may have been stolen.
During the past two weeks Gardai from Tuam District seized one such car being offered for sale to an unsuspecting buyer in the town while Ballinasloe Gardai seized a car where the buyer was asked to meet the seller at the Church grounds in Mountbellew.
