Terms for mother and baby enquiry next month

THE long awaited terms of reference for the forthcoming inquiry into Mother and Baby homes throughout the country are expected to be published next month.
Minister for Children James Reilly confirmed this week that the Attorney General has completed her review of the terms of reference, which will be published on January 8.
Tuam historian Catherine Corless, whose research on the Tuam Mother and Baby Home led to the inquiry being established, said she has been told the matter will be the first item on the Cabinet’s agenda in the New Year.
“I got a call from Minister Reilly’s office on Monday to tell me that the terms of reference would be the first item on the agenda once they come back after Christmas and that within two weeks they hope to have it passed,” she said.
