Galway's County Hall

Council calls for halt on water charges

WITH protests about water charges set to take place in Tuam and Galway on Saturday, members of Galway Co Council have supported a call to suspend the charges from October 1.
The call for the suspension of water charges was agreed unanimously by the councillors, who have been told that water meters are to be installed throughout the county from December.
Meanwhile, Fianna Fail Cllr Donagh Killilea has gone further, and is calling for water charges to be abolished until water quality in the county is up to standard.
The Tuam councillor says there are a lot of questions to be answered before charges should be implemented.
