Water trustees liable for members bills warns barrister

NOT a single public body or water company has accepted an invitation to attend a public information meeting arranged by Cllr James Charity in Clonboo tonight (Wed) despite the fact that it is clearly billed as an initiative designed to provide the public with factual information and is not a protest meeting.
Cllr Charity told The Tuam Herald that Galway Co Council have declined his invitation and passed the buck on to Irish Water; Irish Water have failed even to respond to the invitation. Celtic Anglian says their contract does not allow them attend and the EPA also declined. Even the Federation of Group Water Schemes won’t be attending.
“I think they’re burying their head in the sand,” he said. “I’ve made it clear that this is not a protest meeting. It’s an opportunity for these bodies to engage with the public, taxpayers, and clarify factual matters in an effort to counter some of the wilder scenarios and bad advice that is now floating about. Sadly, those with responsibility for implementing the new system seem to be running for cover at a time when clarity is most needed,” he added.
