Drunk and dangerous driving cases down

A HUGE change in attitude towards road safety and taking a responsible approach to driving is being credited with the significant drop in the number of drunk and dangerous driving convictions handed down in the District Courts.
Figures released by the Court Service are compiled on a national basis but anecdotal evidence indicates the numbers of serious driving offences, especially the number of defendants brought before courts such as Tuam District Court, are decreasing significantly.
The fall is being attributed to the success of high-profile publicity campaigns alerting the public to the consequences of reckless behaviour on our roads. The impact of the Garda Traffic Corps and a general change in public attitudes towards anti-social behaviour such as drunk driving are other contributing factors.
