Barnaderg Post Office granted reprieve but long term future remains uncertain

A 12-month stay of execution has been granted to Barnaderg Post Office following confirmation by An Post that a full postal service will continue in the village until July 2015.
The announcement came last Friday, five months after a consultation process concluded that led to a vigorous campaign by the local community to have postal services retained in their current form.
While Barnaderg Post Office Action Group has welcomed the decision, it is warning local people that the long-term future of the post office has not yet been secured.
“As part of this announcement An Post has indicated that prior to July 1, 2015 they will review their position again with a view to making a decision on the longer term future of Barnaderg Post Office,” said Bernard Keeley, chairman of the group.
“Barnaderg Post Office must be used at every possible opportunity by every member of the local community.”
