Headford will see dental service return for new school year

CHILDREN and teenagers in the Headford area who have been without local dental services for a number of months should be able to attend the public dentist when they return for a new school year in September.

The withdrawal of public dental services from the North Galway town earlier this year has caused considerable hardship for families in the area who have been unhappy with having to travel to the city for appointments and dental checks.

Co Cllr Mary Hoade raised the problem at last week’s West Regional Health Forum where she sought an explanation for the withdrawal of the dental clinic.

Cllr Hoade was told that the HSE hopes to have repairs to the dental clinic carried out by this summer. She questioned where the money was coming for this work as she had been waiting nearly a year to hear about funding for refurbishment works in Corrandulla.

The HSE says only a small amount of money is required for the Headford project and that this has been secured. The area manager, Catherine Cunningham, said the service by a dental team will be returned to Headford.
