Major expansion hopes for Tuam secondary school

THE additional classrooms planned for Tuam’s Archbishop McHale College may now become part of a much bigger expansion which could see a complete new school being built in phases on the site by late 2015 or early 2016.

Officials from the building section of the Galway-Roscommon Education and Training Board (ETB) had a meeting behind closed doors in the Ard Ri House Hotel, Tuam yesterday (Tuesday) with members of the Board of Management of the school as up to €1 million may be available from the Department of Education for a complete new building on the site under the Devolved Schools Scheme. This is now the preferred option rather than adding six classrooms on to the existing mass concrete structure that is there since the 1930s.
