North Galway families save thousands by cutting food waste by 60 per cent

A PILOT project run by Galway Co Council with families in a North Galway village has succeeded in slashing the amount of food they throw in the bin by a whopping 60 per cent in just a number of weeks.

Just under 50 adults and children from 12 households in Milltown have managed to cut back on their food waste and save hundreds of euro at the same time.

If the group members keep up their good habits, they alone will have saved €3,500 in a year and kept almost 1.3 tonnes of food from being dumped in landfill.
