Local acts on new awards album

TWO teenage acts from the locality are aiming to take the Irish album charts by storm in the coming few weeks.

Twelve String are a band made up of lead singer Machaela Miskell from Barnaderg, brothers Tadhg and Tomás Dunleavy from Kilconly, and guitarist Amanda Higgins of Sylane; while the second act is Megan Miskell, a solo artist from Cloondahamper, Lavally.
They have recorded songs that feature on the Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMAs) Volume 10 album, which is due for release this coming Friday, October 6. There are ten acts in total with songs on the album, all of whom are from Co Galway, except for one Co Meath act.
Both Twelve String and Megan Miskell have recorded their own original song. Twelve String’s song is ‘Too Far Gone’, while Megan’s is ‘Morse Code’. Last year’s IYMAs album reached number five in the national charts, and to launch the 2017 version, the acts on this year’s album will be playing in Monroe’s pub in Galway this Saturday afternoon.
The IYMAs is a youth music educational programme aimed at young bands and musicians from the ages of 12 to 19, and Barry Lennon is the Director of the programme. “We had the regional heat in Nun’s Island Theatre in Galway in January of this year, and each track recorded on the album is an original,” said Barry.
“We are encouraging everyone to pick up a copy of the album by pre-ordering it now on iTunes, or by buying it during the week of October 6 to 12, so we can get it into the Irish charts.”
Doors open at 2pm on Saturday for the gig in Monroe’s. The album can be bought at the venue on the day.
As well as being available digitally, it will also be on sale in OMG Zhivago on Shop Street in Galway city from Friday.
