Dog's best friend -Tom Rennick, a vet of the old school

THERE’S an old adage in journalism: Dog bites man. No news. Man bites dog. That’s news. When it comes to Tuam-based vet Tom Rennick, any man who bit a dog would be well advised to give him a wide berth.
Tom, an inveterate dog lover, might instinctively side with the animal; probably also reckoning the bitten man must have deserved it. People he may take or leave, but dogs are just great, he says.
As we chatted recently in his Tuam home, we discover we have veterinary medicine and journalism in common: not just our respective professions, but our fathers’ as well. His father was the journalist and mine the vet. To add to the mix Tom’s daughter, Rebekah, will soon qualify as a vet, while maintaining a strong interest in journalism.
