STEPPING through the door of John Ward’s Agricultural Supplies shop in Ballymacward is like stepping into a time machine that brings you back to an era most of us have long forgotten.
The building itself dates back to 1845 and current proprietor PJ is a grandson of the first owner, Martin Ward who opened the doors in 1903.
A recent paint job has seen the distinctive sign come down but PJ and his wife Anne O’Brien Ward – to distinguish her from her sister in law who is also Anne — are plAnneing to reinstate it soon, as the whitewashed shop at the crossroads has become a landmark in the area down through the years.
Inside, the original counter and shop fittings house a treasure trove of items from sheep branding fluid to plastic funnels arranged in an ad hoc fashion.
