Stripes of all shapes

WE’VE all heard the fashion mantras of how pot bellies or thunder thighs won’t be done any favours by dressing them up in horizontal stripes and that stumpy legs will dramatically transform into stunning pins if styled in vertical stripes.
Bands of big wide stripes or rows of narrow stripes can certainly have a magnifying effect on certain parts of our bodies that we might prefer to be more slender but stripes shouldn’t be off limits for those who have a bit more wobble to work with. While not a trend that has besieged the shops, stripes are always appearing in varying forms around now and are really key in the monochrome and nautical looks.
It is possible to find a stripe that suits your style and body shape. If you’re conscious about the tummy trouble spreading around your midriff then avoid stripes that sit directly around the waist. However, you could get away with a striped skirt or wide culottes that have a single colour band and stripes further down by teaming with a strong block colour.
Vertical stripes look well on crisp cotton or soft silk shirts and there are also some great skirts featuring vertical stripes this season – again perfect for those who like a straight skirt but aren’t seeking a 'fuller’ look.
Of course stripes aren’t simply white and black or white and blue etc. A selection of multi-coloured stripes can be extremely striking and less harsh on the eye and any figure hang-up area you might have.
If you don’t fancy wearing stripes, then pick up the trend in an accessory such as multi-coloured bag, platform sole or statement necklace.
