Empathy for bereaved parents at heart of anam cara support group

THE loss of a child is something no parent ever wants to contemplate, but for many mothers and fathers throughout the county it’s a permanent grief they have to somehow cope with, day in, day out.
Beyond the initial pain and suffering of the illness or accident that claims the life of a son or a daughter, there’s the long term sense of loss that many parents struggle to come to terms with, regardless of whether their child was a toddler, teenager or adult.
Anam Cara is a support group for bereaved parents who find comfort and solace in sharing their experiences with others who have gone through the same loss. The charity hosts monthly meetings in Galway on the first Wednesday of every month, with the March meeting being held next week at Ballybane Enterprise Centre.
