VEC chairman fears that changes to PLCs could hit mainstream schools By TOM GILMORE CHANGES to Post-Leaving Certificate courses proposed by the Government could have negative implications for some mainstream vocational schools around Galway, according to members of Co Galway VEC. The matter was raised at the monthly meeting of the VEC and CEO Joe McDonagh said there was a worry that some PLCs might not be addressing the skills shortage in the economy. [private]The latest Government survey on the matter is also looking at the whole apprenticeship situation, the cost of courses for apprentices and their duration. The CEO said this survey stems from the future integration of FAS into the PLC system. â€Å“It could have consequences for some of our mainstream schools which have PLCs attached to their courses and we need to examine the proposals in greater detail at our next meeting,â€Â said chairman Pat Gilmore.[/private]
