Athenry students welcomed CoderDojo founder to their computer club

ATHENRY welcomed the co-founder of an international computer club in recent weeks as part of Presentation Collegeâ€â„¢s newly formed CoderDojo club. James Whelton spoke to students, staff and invited guests about the club, and about his own life and achievements, including the founding of CoderDojo, which has grown to become a computer phenomenon with clubs in over 22 countries worldwide. The clubs offer young people the opportunity to learn computer programming in a fun and creative environment, using a range of programming frameworks and tools, including HTML and Scratch. The Athenry club was developed and managed by student teacher Elaine Carroll who is completing her teaching practice at the school as part of her Professional Diploma in Education at NUI Galway. Presentation College, Athenry is one of the partner schools in NUI Galway School of Educationâ€â„¢s partnership programme with post-primary schools.
